The thing is that everyone and I mean E V E R Y O N E keeps asking me "Have you picked it out yet?" or "Oooooh, you must be so excited" or "I remember how lovely it was..." or "I'll come with you and we'll have loads of fun" or "My Gaaaawd! I can't believe you haven't had your first fitting yet!" or the most panic inducing comment "You won't find a nice looking dress under £2000, everyone can see quality".
There I a few things I do when people say these things:
1) I lie and say I know exactly which dress I want.
2) I shriek a little and fake excitement too and hope they don't notice.
3) I pretend I'm interested in how much champagne they had when they frolicked around the bridal shops with 15 of their best friends...
4) I'm thinking "no Fuggin' way you're coming with me!" as I know exactly how grumpy and annoyed and upset I get when I see something I like but it looks like crap on me.
5) I feel uber-stressed and panic and think I'll have to wear a dress made out of a bedsheet as I'm leaving it so late.
6) Shut up!! I refuse to spend that type of amount on a dress I'd be afraid to move in as I'd be scared shitless to stain, spill or rip it. I want to be comfortable and have fun.
BUT
I am looking but I am not making it into a massive call out on facebook for friends to join me. I have never felt comfortable in shops where they dress you and I don't like having to say "It's not me" when they've clearly spent an awful lot of time making the dress. I feel like I'm saying "It's the most hideous thing I've ever seen!" or "Holy Crap, It's sooooo not worth that kind of money!" + If I'm there I almost feel obliged to get a dress from them even though I don't want to spend thousands of pounds on a dress, I'm looking to see what sort of dress will suit me and my body type.
Please, bear in mind that choosing a dress is exciting but a lot of comments and opinions can make it very stressful. If you notice that the dress hasn't been bought from a designer shop, please just remember that the bride will have chosen it for her and not you. Which is what I'll be doing, most likely with Boyfriend by my side - the only one who can take my mood swings and strops and sulkiness that is certain to follow until I find one I am happy with. He loves me.
When I started looking for my dress I checked on the internet and in bridal magazines. Have not been to a single store - but then I also decided to go with a different solution.
SvaraRaderaI was married in secretly and found somekind of dress (a bit vintage feel) in an outlet store the weekend earlier.
SvaraRaderaIt was actually very nice to have something to plan totally on my own, and not make such a big deal about but at the same time also a bit lonely.
Good luck!
